The idea of Touch My World productions was dreamt up in 2015 and created from the love of producing full scale productions, writing and adapting scripts, providing a platform for individuals with learning and physical disabilities to perform, create and design set and costumes and gain skills within the technical element of stage productions.
The TMW team are passionate about making theatre accessible to all. Providing a sensory theatre experience and a safe place for individuals of all ages to socialise, gain new friends and grow in confidence and self-esteem. It also provides a place for parents and carers the chance to meet and socialise whilst the sessions are taking place.
It provides a platform for individuals encouraging positive relationships through musical theatre, singing, dancing and acting. The dream was thought up to give people with disabilities the opportunity to be able to access the same facilities and opportunities in performing arts as those without.
The ethos is imagine, inspire and include where imagination is endless and anything that can be thought of can be achieved. Having a disability is often looked at as people only seeing what someone can’t do but TMW believes that anything is achievable whatever the disability as long as the passion and want is there. TMW wants to inspire through creative art and Technical production.
Growing in skills in reading scripts and social skills by working with others to create the final product. Thinking outside the box, following routines.
Include is a key factor within the ethos bringing those with disabilities into the community, providing an inclusive session where whatever ability there is still the option to take part.
Touch my world also aims to provide the opportunity for people with disabilities to gain new skills and learn new things such as the technical elements of theatre production teaching people how to use the equipment, knowing cues and programming. As well as the creative element in set design and costume design. There is something for everyone whether it be on stage or behind the scene all roles are vital to the other.
Growing up with a sister with physical disabilities it was apparent that there was limited opportunities and experiences however now thankfully the social stigma is changing.
TMW provides a service for people to attend. Grow in confidence, build new friendships and produce a full scale production that is bigger than the usual ‘school play’ but gives an actual opportunity of performing on stage or in a theatre and being a part of the technical and creative crew.
